CLASSIC VEHICLE RESTORATION
Everyone has a dream car. Whether it is an air-cooled Porsche 911, or a convertible Mercedes SL 450, owning a beautiful classic car is a dream come true for many people.
We love classic cars, just like you do, and we can help you enjoy them for years to come. For many people owning a classic car is the completion of a long-standing dream that took years to come true. That is why we pay the outmost attention to detail on each and every one of the classic projects that comes through the door. We carry out all electrical work, engine, and transmission for classic Mercedes, BMW, Audi and air-cooled Porsche 911 and classic European exotics. From engine resealing to engine tune-up and rebuild, mechanical or sequential fuel injection, carburetors, we will be restoring your classic vehicle to a like new condition. Â
THE PLAN
The most important part in completing a mechanical restoration is creating a plan based on the extent of work you are interested in. This will give you an understanding of the entire process. We want to make you a part of the process. You are welcome to make monthly visits and see the process for yourself – it is something very exciting to see rust and decay being stripped away and while the parts are getting a new lease on life. We also make regular phone calls and emails to clients with attached photos to show the progress of the project. Having the client involved with the process affords them the opportunity to see how their dream car is evolving and, as well as an idea about cost and time. Â
COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD
The start of our engine rebuild process is the complete disassembly of the engine. All parts are inspected and assessed for wear and tear. Unserviceable parts are scrapped. The parts that are suitable for reconditioning are returned to a like new condition with great care. Damaged or worn-out components are replaced with newly manufactured parts. Extremely worn out, warped cylinder heads are sent out for spec-cutting and resurfacing. The resurfacing process is returning the surfaces to a like new condition eliminating any traces of overheating, corrosion, and old gaskets imprints.   Â
While the engine is out, you may want to consider replacing the timing chain (or belt – if equipped) and water pump, as they can save you an extra expense in the future.  Â
We work with the most reputable classic car parts providers. Even if sometimes long lead times are involved due to the rarity of some parts, we are always able to source what is needed.Â
ESTIMATES AND BILLING
In most cases it is nearly impossible to provide an estimate for how much a mechanical restoration will cost. The reason is that until the engine (or other mechanical, hydraulic or electrical components) is completely assessed through complete disassembly, it is unlikely we can get an accurate idea what exactly needs to be done, how many hours it will take, or what parts can be restored or need to be bought brand new.Â
AIR COOLED PORSCHE 911
EUROTEKK is Edmonton’s air-cooled Porsche 911 authority.Â
Production of the 911 started in 1964 after having been introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show a year prior. It was supposed to be called Porsche 901, had it not been for Peugeot who trademarked the 901 number shortly before production started. Â
During its production, the Porsche engine went from 2.0 liter to 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 and finally to 3.2 liter. The 2.7 has proven to be the least reliable.Â
What makes the 911 special is the fact that it has a dry sump, single overhead chain driven camshafts, air cooled cylinders and heads (partially oil cooled – in the camshaft/rocker boxes). All these are just a few of the features the 911 is sharing with the racing world. Â
TOP END REBUILD
A top end overhaul is considered a partial rebuild, and it is usually recommended for engines with 100,000 km on the odometer. Oil leaks, valve wear, low compression and head stud issues are some of the problems that can be addressed during this process. Â
COMPLETE REBUILD
A complete rebuild is a comprehensive overhaul of the engine – top and bottom. This option should be considered for any engine with 160,000km – 200,000km and over. The engine is completely disassembled. Each part is assessed and it will be reused or replaced, based on its inspection assessment. If the part can be reused, it is thoroughly cleaned and reused. We use improved assembly procedures and quality parts to ensure that the 911 runs in optimal conditions. A rebuild will make up for the effects of contaminated oil, high mileage, incorrect rebuilds, carbon deposits, racing and abuse. Â
FAQs
If the engine is in fairly good condition, a repair might be all the car needs. However, if your car exhibits at once several symptoms such as knocking sounds, blue exhaust smoke, excessive oil consumption, and poor/no engine compression, then you may want to consider a rebuild.
First of all, it is important to leave a very little quantity of gasoline in the tank and to add a fuel stabilizer. Old gasoline can damage your engine; The ethanol in the fuel may also draw water vapors into the fuel line causing corrosion and failure of fuel components. Â
